Basic Procedure

1)  Initial Contact

  • You and I clarify our respective needs regarding your manuscript and the editing process.
  • I provide you with a preliminary quote.
  • If you are happy to proceed, then we move on to step 2.

2)  Contract and Payment

  • You and I agree upon a contract.
  • You and I sign the contract.
  • I issue you with an invoice.
  • You pay the agreed sum in full.
  • I issue you with a receipt.

3)  Work Begins

  • I create a “clean” copy of your manuscript.
  • I perform two “editing passes” of your manuscript.

Editing Pass No. 1

  • I focus on understanding your manuscript.
  • I raise queries (in comment boxes).
  • We work together to resolve the queries (Q&A via e-mail).
  • I provide you with a final version of Editing Pass No. 1 for review.
    • You review the changes made to the content of your manuscript.
    • You ensure that either you “accept” or “reject” each change.
    • You are responsible for checking and confirming whether each change has altered the original meaning of the text.

Editing Pass No. 2

  • I focus on journal-specific formatting, citations, equations, figures, tables, headings, and any other remaining editorial matters.
  • I raise queries (in comment boxes).
  • We work together to resolve the queries (Q&A via e-mail).
  • I produce a preliminary final version of Editing Pass No. 2.
  • I proofread a hard copy of the preliminary final version.
  • I provide you with a final version of Editing Pass No. 2 for review.
    • You review the changes made to the content of your manuscript.
    • You ensure that either you “accept” or “reject” each change.
    • You are responsible for checking and confirming whether each change has altered the original meaning of the text.
  • I provide you with a style sheet.

4)  Conclusion, Feedback, and Follow-Up

  • I continue to support you throughout the publication process, including providing assistance with responding to reviewers’ comments.
  • You are free to ask questions regarding the final version of your manuscript.
  • I request feedback from you.
  • I will gladly accept referrals to your friends and colleagues.
